According to NDTV, Singh, a final-year medical student studying in Imphal, was flying to her hometown Patna for her brother's funeral.

The incident occurred at Imphal airport, soon after Kannanthanam, Minister of State (Independent Charge) in the Ministry of Tourism landed at the airport on his way to the Manipur Sangai Festival 2017. "I have informed my relatives at home that I will be there on time", she is heard telling the minister. Slamming the Union Minister, the woman doctor further asks Alphons to give in writing that her flights will not be delayed further to which the minister replies that he has no authority to do so. The passenger, Dr Nirala Singh, was filmed yesterday venting her frustration at union minister KJ Alphons. "I told her that there is a protocol when the president or the prime minister is landing no flight can take off".

Speaking to ANI, Alphons said, "I don't think there is any controversy at all". If I get late, the body will degrade. She was also heard asking Alphons to give in writing what time her flight would take off.

Due to delays in flight, Jet Airways also admitted that the flights affected by the VVIP movement at Delhi Airport have been affected.

"Apart from the Prime Minister and President there is no protocol for any Minister". On the verge of breaking down, she tells Alphons that because of the delay the dead body would start decomposing. The woman had to talk to someone. She will vent her anger and helplessness.

Kannanthanam's defence was corroborated by the Airport Director of the Imphal Airport. But three scheduled flights were delayed by around two hours due to the president of India's flight movement.

"Some flights were delayed because of VVIP movement as the President's flight was scheduled to arrive", an official at Imphal airport said.
