Colorado Springs police arrested a 23-year-old accused burglar on felony assault and criminal mischief charges after the suspect lost a foot chase, kicked one officer in the head and smacked another in the face.

All three were rushed to the hospital but doctors couldn't save the children. It's not clear if he has a lawyer yet.

Murphy told police Tuesday he has had "homicidal idealizations" before, and his father said his son had "talked about doing this previously". A man was also stabbed, the Colorado Springs Police Department said in a statement.

Police identified the suspect as Malik Vincent Murphy.

The 19-year-old and his younger siblings all slept in the same room.

The parents, Malik Murphy and Kibler's office reached an agreement that the teen would undergo mental health treatment and return to school and the case would be ended.

There were other people inside the home at the time of the stabbing and police are working to determine their relationship with the victims and Murphy.

Neighbor Gilbert Macias told The Gazette of Colorado Springs that he often saw the younger brother and sister playing outside when he got home from work. Jefferson Murphy is expected to recover.
