Sanchez's future at Arsenal is now in doubt, with the 29-year-old's current contract expiring next summer and no news yet of negotiations.

Asked if Arsenal had set a deadline for contract negotiations with the pair to conclude, Wenger replied: "No".

Arsenal's preparations for a return to Premier League action following the global break are once again dominated by uncertainty over the futures of Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil.

Sanchez could be joining Manchester City this summer.

"That's my understanding, yes", said Wenger.

"I would say you have in every generation a player who carries the pressure of expectation of a nation", Wenger told reporters during Friday's press conference.

Wenger also had some positive news regarding the fitness of Mesut Ozil as the playmaker is now deemed fit and available for selection after overcoming a knee injury that's kept him out for the last four games.

However, Alexis Sanchez will need to be assessed as he's not due to return to training until tomorrow following his exploits with Chile but we have plenty of options in the final third so should cope even if Sanchez isn't deemed fit enough to start this weekend.

"The main reason is the way the team have welcomed me here", he said.

Key duo, Shkodran Mustafi and Sead Kolasinac picked up knocks whilst away in the last week, with Mustafi picking up what seemed a serious muscular injury during Germany's game against Azerbaijan.

Koscielny has not yet featured in the Europa League this campaign, but he just might well need to if Wenger decides to include him in the squad that travels to Serbia on Thursday.

Former Arsenal midfielder Merson is tipping the Gunners to ease to a win against Watford but admitted the north London outfit will face a tough game at Vicarage Road. I thought 'what have I done coming here - this is going to be embarrassing'. He didn't play in the first game, and we lost him in the second game against Azerbaijan at home.
