But despite the Belgian's heroics, there remains doubts as to whether Conte sees the striker as a vital part of his plans and, speaking to Sky Sports, the manager said: "It was good for Michy to score two goals".

Cesar Azpilicueta put Chelsea back in front with a header from very close range to the bottom left corner just three minutes from time.

The win lifts Chelsea into fourth place, a point ahead of Watford, one of the surprise teams of the young season. Conte's side had also chucked away a two-goal advantage in drawing with Roma in the Champions League on Wednesday.

Referee Jon Moss awarded a corner after the ball appeared to go out off the foot of Eden Hazard.

Watford began the second half much as it had ended the first and took the lead early on when Richarlison picked out an unmarked Pereyra, who drilled the ball past Thibaut Courtois.

Richarlison again fluffed his lines with a free header six yards out and it was a miss that ultimately proved costly, as Batshuayi shrugged off his marker to steer a pinpoint header past Gomes following Pedro's wicked cross from the right.

Another substitute, Willian, had a hand in Chelsea's third as he crossed for Azpilicueta to head home.

The Blues return to Stamford Bridge and they welcome Watford to West London, with the Hornets in fine form themselves occupying a Champions League spot after just eight games.

Chelsea defeated Watford 4-2 in the Premier League on Saturday.

Chelsea came back from 2-1 down to secure a 4-2 win over Watford at Stamford Bridge on Saturday afternoon.

However, Gomes had no chance with Pedro's opener on 12 minutes, a goal of the month contender, as he bent a shot from outside the penalty area beyond the keeper, kissing the post as it nestled in to the back of the net.
