The terrifying text message students got after active shooter report

While it is not now clear if there is an active shooter, D.C. police and the Federal Bureau of Investigation are sweeping through multiple campus buildings. "So far nothing confirmed", the tweet reads.

AN AMERICAN university has been placed on total lockdown this evening over reports there is an active shooter on the loose on the campus. There is no word of any injuries or victims at this time.

Howard University tweeted that they were anonymously notified of a potential shooter at the school. Staff and students have been told to stay in place until that has been completed.

We're on the scene @HowardU for the report of an active shooter. Police are asking people to avoid 6th Street from Fairmont Street to College Street and Howard Place from Georgia Avenue to 4th Street while they investigate.

Howard University sent students a text message about 12:40 p.m. that says: "ALERT!"

This news arrives in the midst of Howard's 150th homecoming celebration.

On Tuesday morning, panicked students took to social media in confusion after not hearing from university officials as the reports unfolded.

Officers stormed Howard University in Washington and evacuated buildings after receiving an anonymous emergency call.
