To celebrate the 20th anniversary of the small egg-shaped digital pet the Tamagotchi will be released in the USA for $15 (~R203) but there's no word yet on whether the toy will be released in other parts of the world. Forget them in your locker, and the Tamagotchi toys would beep out reminders and the pets would possibly suffer a digital death if you neglected them for too long.

Remember all the Tamagotchis you killed 20 years ago? Players will also find the same group of pixelated pets to raise as well. "It's not just homework and sports now".

Today's entry in "anniversaries that seem to be celebrated specifically to make you feel old" is everybody's favourite virtual pet...

".Those late-20, early-30-year-olds, they loved the product the first time".

The new line of Tamagotchis will go on sale in limited quantities for $14.99 in the United States, with no information yet regarding possible releases around the world. "They're going to see it, they're going to take it, and they're going to have kids [and] siblings.that then they'll show it off to that younger generation", Badie said.

The device was egg-shaped and came in various colours, with most of the versions having only three buttons.

The intention for the simpler play style was because Bandai is hoping the new line will appeal to kids who played with Tamagotchi back in the '90s and who know have their own, full lives to deal with. You have to feed your digital pet, care for it and clean up after it.

Since its initial debut, the company has sold more than 82 million units worldwide.
