The Uefa Nations League group stage will be played across three global breaks between September and November 2018.

Every country in Europe will participate in the new format which is meant to revolutionise global football.

The winners of the four groups in League A will qualify for the Final Four competition.

At the end of the qualifying round for the world Cup formed a part of the divisions of the first draw of the League of Nations - a tournament created to replace global friendlies.

Matches to be played home and away between September and November 2018 (teams will play four or six games depending on the size of their group).

How teams perform in the Nations League will be used to determine which pots they will be placed in for future European qualifiers for the Euros and the World Cup. Division "B" will be divided into four groups of three teams.

In a three-team group, Martin O'Neill's side could easily find them in the top tier of the Nations League at the first time of asking.

The major change, however, is that the final four places will be decided via play-offs between the winners of the 16 Nations League groups in 2018.

The Final Four will be a showpiece summer event to climax the Nations League.

The top four-ranked League A teams that do not qualify for UEFA EURO 2020 will enter play-offs in March 2020, with one finals place on offer.

The victor of the final will be crowned Nations League champions.

But many fans, players and pundits have expressed some confusion over the idea, particularly as it will run alongside qualifying for the 2020 European Championships.

The remaining four sports will be allocated to the Uefa Nations League.

In addition, the UEFA Nations League will provide teams with another chance to qualify for the UEFA EURO final tournament, with four sides qualifying through play-off matches which take place in March 2020.

Teams will be split into four groups of three.

The national teams of Ukraine and Russian Federation will be divided into different groups.

The play-offs will be played in March 2020.
