Liverpool says Sadio Mane could be out for six weeks after sustaining a hamstring injury on global duty with Senegal.

Six weeks is a long time in football, and it just so happens to come at a bad time for Liverpool as they face Manchester United and Tottenham in their next two Premier League games.

"The winger was substituted 89 minutes into Senegal's 2-0 World Cup qualifying win over the Cape Verde Islands on Saturday", said a Liverpool statement.

Further more, Senegal look to be without their star man for their curcial games against South Africa on both 10 and 14 November.

He has already missed three domestic matches this season after receiving a suspension following his sending off at Manchester City last month.

African forward Mane jetted back to Liverpool on Monday to undergo an assessment from the Merseyside outfit's medical staff.

Philippe Coutinho's return to the first-team setup after the transfer window closed saw midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum drop to the bench for Liverpool, with Klopp fielding a front three of Mane, Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah.

Former Liverpool defender Carragher believes Mane will be a huge miss to Klopp's side.

Liverpool finished in fourth place in the Premier League table last season to secure a return to the Champions League.
