6-3 was his 870th match win.

Rafael Nadal tied Andre Agassi for seventh place on the list of all-time Open Era wins when he reached the Shanghai Masters semifinals on Friday. Nadal took three points in succession to begin the showdown as his opponent's fate looked to be sealed, but Dimitrov shifted momentum by clinching seven of the next eight to level at one set each.

In the third set, Nadal saved the one break point he faced in the match in the fifth game, and broke serve in the sixth to set up victory.

Fognini was playing the day after being handed a suspended ban from two grand slams and $96,000 fine for verbally abusing a female umpire at the U.S. Open.

Shanghai - Rafael Nadal won his 14th match on Thursday, when it took the measure of the Italian Fabio Fognini 6-3, 6-1 to reach the quarter-finals of the Masters in Shanghai. Mathematically, there are obviously chances that I can be bumped out if I don't win, for example, tomorrow.

Ramos-Vinolas was off to a better start, with 2 easy holds and break points in each of the first 3 Marin's service games, but he failed to convert any of them.

The tournament's top seed came into Friday's quarter-final contest without dropping a set in his two previous outings, but his spotless record was ended as he advanced to tee up a semi-final clash with Marin Cilic.

Swiss veteran, Roger Federer will play Frenchman Richard Gasquet in another quarter-final pairing, while Argentine Juan Martin del Potro, will meet Serbian Victor Troicki.

"I was a little bit angry with myself just with not keeping up the good tennis at that moment", Cilic said.
