A pro-Israel advocate is praising President Donald Trump's decision to decertify the Iran nuclear deal brokered by the previous administration, saying the Iranians can not be trusted with any kind of nuclear energy.

Iran claims it is developing nuclear weapons purely for defensive purposes.

Iran's supreme leader has said his country will not take heed of "rants and whoppers of a foul-throated USA president", in a speech that also made clear that Tehran will not be the first to violate the nuclear deal.

Ayatollah Ali Khamenei dismissed the US President's rejection of the deal as the "rants and whoppers" of a "brute".

"The European governments have affirmed [their stance] on the agreement and have condemned the statement made by the American president", Khamenei said.

"The US is an agent of the global Zionism". "Europe must stand against practical measures (taken) by America", he said.

"I think Mr. Trump lost an opportunity as a new president to start a new constructive initiative toward Iran", the vice president for economic affairs, Mohammad Nahavandian, told CNN on Monday. "They are angry because the Islamic Republic has foiled their plots in Lebanon, Syria, Iraq and Egypt", he said. Under the deal, Iran undertakes to curb its nuclear activities and place them under total control of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in exchange of abandonment of the sanctions imposed previously by the United Nations Security Council, the European Union and the United States over its nuclear program.

"The US president is showing stupidity, but this should not distract us from the US deceitfulness", he added.
