To prepare for Ghost War's launch - which takes place today - Ubisoft will be performing server maintenance (October 10).

Ghost Recon Wildlands came out earlier this year, but Ubisoft now wants to encourage more people to play.

In the meantime, you can check out the latest trailer for Ghost War, which will be free for all players, even the ones now trying things out later this week during the free weekend promotion. Gamers on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One will be able to download the full version of the game and explore freely beginning on October 12 at 2AM Central, until October 16 at 2AM central.

Every week, finder compares prices on the latest games from Australia's leading retailers.

If you like what you see, and Ubisoft's hoping you will, the company is also running a rather generous discount on the game during the weekend, offering 50% off the full game.

Tactical open-world shooter Ghost Recon Wildlands is going free-to-play from Thursday until Sunday this week. The progress that players achieve during this free trial period will be carried over to the game once they have made the purchase. Players who own a PlayStation 4 Plus, Xbox Live Gold or a Uplay will be able to benefit from this discount offer until October 23.
