The product is the brainchild of spanish fruit company Isla Bonita, who say their "Avocado Light" has 30% less fat.

Avocados are becoming increasingly popular everywhere, that it's only expected someone actually created a low-calorie version of it. The new avocados also ripen faster and maintain their ripeness longer than other brands (characteristics that can be appreciated by anyone who has ever waited a week for an avocado to ripen and then found that it has gone brown and mushy.) The company says the Avocado Light variety will have a mild flavor and all of the creamy dreaminess that avocados are known for. Isla Bonita now has no plans to release them to the US market, but if diet avocados are your thing, you'll be glad to know that the Slimacada, an avocado brand with less fat and fewer calories, is an alternative that has been available in the USA for years. It's officially launching this month in Madrid -but, as of now, Isla Bonita has no plans to expand to the US.

An average avocado has between 20g and 30g of fat, most of which is monosaturated fat which has been linked to reducing cholestrol and lowering the risk of cancer and heart disease, reported the BBC.

According to California Avocados, the typical avocado fruit has about 80 calories and 8 grams of fat in one a serving, which his one-third of an entire fruit.

"That being said", he continued, "if this new product has all of the same nutrient attributes - without any suspect add-ons needed to reduce some of the fat - perhaps this will be a new way, for those looking to lose a few pounds, to enjoy avocado on the menu.in smoothies, on salads, and of course, hello guacamole!".

Avocados are proven to be quite the superfood too, providing nutritious heart-healthy fats, about half your day's fiber, folate, vitamin A, vitamin C and potassium.

Nobody asked for a low-fat avocado, but Spain is giving it to us anyway.

Kari Glassman, another nutritionist also said: "This sounds like an very bad idea to me!"
