Spain striker Morata has been battling to make a swift recovery from a hamstring injury during the global break after limping out of Chelsea's 1-0 loss to Manchester City, while Kante picked up his problem on France duty last week.

That would include two Champions League dates with Roma, Premier League matches against Watford and Bournemouth and a League Cup tie against Everton.

Kante will be a "big loss" for Chelsea, says Antonio Conte. Kante is important for our team and we don't have another player with the same characteristics.

Antonio Conte manager of Chelsea reacts on the touchline during the Premier League match between Crystal Palace and Chelsea at Selhurst Park

"Kante is going to have a scan next week to check if his hamstring problem is improving".

New signing Danny Drinkwater, who is yet to play for the club, is still out with a calf problem and Conte will be patient with the former Leicester City midfielder.

"We were not lucky in this period above all in midfield".

Academy graduates Kyle Scott and Ethan Ampadu are both being tipped for a place in the squad while David Luiz is available after suspension. Maybe this scan will be better than the one before.

"But I don't want to change a lot, but I also want to give an opportunity to young players like Ampadu and Scott".

"If I can, I prefer not to change a lot". It could be an option if I decide to play with three central midfielders. When I chose to utilise him in midfield against Tottenham, could be an option if I decide to play three midfielders.

Alvaro Morata is ruled out for the trip to Palace after suffering a hamstring injury during the defeat to Manchester City just before the worldwide break.

Striker Alvaro Morata is also out of the trip to Selhurst Park after injuring a hamstring in the 1-0 home defeat by Manchester City at the end of September, but could be back in time to face Roma on Wednesday.
