"The new DB11 Volante captures those qualities perfectly and promises the kind of pleasure and enjoyment that can only come from driving an open-top Aston Martin".

Just as we hoped, the sleek styling makes the DB11 Volante one of the sexiest convertibles we've laid our eyes on in a long time.

The fabric roof comes in a choice of bordeaux red, black silver or grey silver and a new C-shaped "light blade" taillights also complete the car's look. The new hood has undergone extreme real world testing in locations ranging from Death Valley to the Arctic Circle. It can be operated remotely using the key, or while on the move at speeds of up to 31 miles per hour with a 31 mph headwind, Aston Martin says.

If you're anxious that the soft top roof won't be as strong as a metal one, Aston Martin went to extreme lengths to test the rigidity of the DB11 Volante's roof mechanism.

The roof was tested to extremes during 100,000 lab-based cycles using special weather chambers to simulate 10 years of use in the harshest environments on the planet in the space of a month.

The convertible DB11 variant joins the existing coupe model that launched past year, powered by a new 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine with 503 horsepower. Torque is 513lb ft and the auto produces 255g/km CO2. "The challenge of creating a convertible auto is retaining structural and dynamic integrity", Aston Martin Chief Technical Officer Max Szwaj explains.

In addition to the new V-8, which is a product of Mercedes AMG's engine shop and part of a partnership with the German marque, and the new aluminum structure (a smart switch made in the DB11 Coupe), the Volante is equipped with the 8-speed ZF paddle-shift automatic transmission. "To protect the former you need strength and rigidity, but to preserve the latter you need to keep weight to a minimum".

Deliveries of the Aston Martin DB11 Volante in the USA are scheduled to begin during the second quarter of 2018 and will be priced from $220,385 including destination.

Aston Martin says the new vehicle is 26kg lighter than the old DB9 Volante model, as well as five percent stiffer, to provide a better ride and handling experience. From what we can see, Aston Martin has another stunner in its growing line-up.
