Trump Finds Unlikely Ally In Bid To Solve Iran Problem

Trump said yesterday he has reached a decision on whether to recertify Iran's compliance with the deal to curb its nuclear programme, but did not reveal his intentions.

"Never say never", Tillerson said.

A former senior aide to ex-US President Barack Obama has rejected the narrative by current American administration officials that Iran is "violating the spirit" of a 2015 nuclear deal even as it is in technical compliance with it.

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said Friday that the country would press ahead with strengthening its missile capabilities and military defenses, Press TV reported.

U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson has said that the agreement must be changed or the United States could not stick with it. Iran has said its nuclear accord cannot be renegotiated.

Tillerson said Iran continues to prop up the "horrible" regime of Syria's Bashar al-Assad, carry out banned missile tests and harass shipping in the Gulf.

"Time is now ripe for correcting the United States miscalculations", General Mohammad Ali Jafari said Wednesday, a day after Trump addressed the UN and called Iran a "corrupt dictatorship" and a "murderous regime".

Ahead of Trump's public criticism at the U.N. General Assembly, his administration slapped more than a dozen sanctions on Iranian individuals and groups in July for aiding its non-nuclear weapons program. "Ironically, so has the Trump administration", Blinken stressed.

The demonstration, an annual event during the U.N. General Assembly, came on a day when President Donald Trump announced that he had decided whether to continue participating in a seven-nation deal created to limit Iran's nuclear program.

"We've all been in lengthy discussions not just about the Iran deal but really about what to do about Iran's destabilizing behavior broadly", McMaster said Thursday.

"We therefore are in no need of new conquests", he said.

"The motto of "our country first" not only leads to more national confrontation and less prosperity, in the end there are only losers", Gabriel said.

Tillerson said there also is evidence of fuel shortages in North Korea following the passage of new UN Security Council sanctions. "We have concluded scores of development agreements with advanced countries in both East and West".

He also criticized a 2015 pact that the United States and other world powers struck with Iran under which Tehran agreed to restrict its nuclear program in return for relief from economic sanctions.

If, as now appears increasingly likely, he decides that it is not, it could open the way for renewed United States sanctions and perhaps the collapse of the agreement.
