SSB constable dead, another injured officer shifted to SKIMS

"An Assistant Sub Inspector among two killed in alleged militants" attack" on the SSB camp while police said that it was an incident of "fratricide" near Jawahar Tunnel in Banihal area of Ramban district in Jammu and Kashmir. "One of them later on succumbed to injuries, while another is under treatment", the police said, in a press release.

"An SSB head constable suffered a fatal casualty in the brief firing while another jawan lost his jaw bone due to an attack by some blunt object", Lal said.

"The militants also snatched two weapons - INSAS and AR 41 - from the SSB men before fleeing from the spot", the spokesman said.

The incident took place at around 7.15 pm and the police is investigating the cause of the firing, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Ramban, Mohan Lal told PTI.

Meanwhile, sources identified the youths as Aquib Ahmed, Gazanfar and Mohammad Arif, who have allegedly recently joined militant ranks. "We are ascertaining the details", the SSP said while not ruling out either a militant attack or fratricide.

Another police official said the three youth, who are involved in the attack were studying in a local madrasa (religious seminar). We were guarding the under-construction tunnel and there is a platoon post about 24 kilometers from Banihal railway station. They were fired at from a close range with a 9 mm gun.

A case has been registered and investigation started, the police said.
