An Army soldier was killed and three others injured in sniper fire from the Pakistani side along the Line of Control (LoC) in Keran sector of north Kashmir's Kupwara district on Wednesday. An Army spokesman confirmed the death of the soldier and said the Indian troops responded to the Pakistani firing in a proper way.

One of the injured identified as Rajesh Khatri was declared brought dead by the doctors who attended upon him at hospital, reports said.

He said "necessary and adequate" response has been given to the Pakistani firing.

However, it is not yet know if the Pakistani troops suffered any casualties in the Indian "retaliatory action".

An Indian soldier was killed and three others were wounded in a cross-border fire in disputed Kashmir region Wednesday.

Pakistani troops had earlier violated ceasefire on the global border (IB) in the Jammu district consecutively for four days.

"Pakistani troops resorted to unprovoked firing along the LoC in the early hours today". It urged India to respect the 2003 ceasefire agreement and investigate various incidents that have taken along the LoC.

One civilian and a BSF trooper were killed.
