Ric Flair Talks To People TV About His Health Scare

I never drank while I was working.

Ric Flair has confirmed that years of alcohol abuse led to his recent health complications, and the WWE legend swears he will never drink again. "But this is totally different".

Flair said he turned to alcohol as a way to cope with pain from injuries and the grind of life in pro wrestling, noting that he never took a pain pill.

Barlow says she first took 68-year-old Flair to the hospital Friday night after he was complaining of severe abdominal pains. and "from that moment on it all seems like a nightmare".


"The Nature Boy" spoke to People TV from the rehab center where he's now recovering from surgery.

During his time in the hospital, Flair's doctors removed part of his bowel and inserted a pacemaker, a small device that's placed in your chest or abdomen to help steady your heartbeat. But I'm not out of the woods yet.

Flair appeared on the Dan LeBatard show and gave details of his drinking habit, which he said progressed throughout his career but insisted he never drank before he worked.

"Now, the man once known as the "Nature Boy", needs a nurse to help steady his shaking hands so he can sip water from a glass".


"I'll never drink again", Flair told People TV. "I didn't think I was an alcoholic, but obviously I was".

"Now, the father of four says he is dedicated to doing better".
