"Cricket is a global game; moreover, India became what it is in cricket after winning the 1983 World Cup. As a filmmaker, for me, the journey to that victory is filled with raw energy and sheer passion of that young Indian team, and is probably one of the most exciting stories I have worked on".

Ranveer Singh and Arjun Kapoor might be the best of friends beyond the screen, but they are rivals when it comes to a good role.

Kabir Khan has already completed the scripting of the film and has conveyed that Ranveer Singh to be the flawless choice to play the sports legend.

CCL is co-producing the film with Phantom Films. Kabir, who has just finished the script, recalls that he'd watched this memorable match as a young schoolboy. The final was between India and West Indies at the Lord's Cricket Ground in London June 25.

Amid rumours of his multiple upcoming projects - including those with Salman Khan, and Shah Rukh Khan - the one most buzzworthy is new about Kabir directing a film on India's 1983 World Cup win. He is the only player in the history of cricket to have taken more than 400 wickets (434 wickets) and scored more than 5,000 runs in Tests. Earlier there was news of Arjun Kapoor too being approached for the role of Kail Dev but it is Ranveer Singh who has finally signed the dotted line.

Actors like Priyanka Chopra, Farhan Akhtar, Sushant Singh Rajput and Emraan Hashmi have already been a part of sports-based films in Bollywood.

Ranveer as Kapil Dev sounds interesting; he is an awesome actor and will play the role with all his heart.

While further details of the movie are yet to be divulged by the production house, the film is likely to go on floors next year. Sources close to the film also revealed that several actors are in the contention to play supporting roles. The rest of the cast has not been announced as of yet, and it would be interesting to see who will play the rest of the players.

Ranveer Singh's Padmavati will release on December 1.
