At the very least, Motorola should be committed to rolling out an Android 8.0 Oreo update to the Moto G4 Plus, though both it and the regular Moto G4 do not appear on Motorola's recently published list of phones slated for an upgrade. I still remember when Motorola launched the Moto G4 promising to update to Android O. Wonder why they don't.

And lastly, Motorola will likely take its sweet time with this update, as it's technically "unplanned" if you consider its claim that the promises made in its marketing materials were errors.

Motorola Confirms Which Handsets Will Receive Android 8.0 Oreo Update

It has been about a month since Google released Android 8.0 Oreo and now the wait is on for Android device owners to receive the update. The company then asserted that it was the general practice for the Moto G family to get one major OS upgrade per device. This was not the case for the Moto G4 and the Moto G4 Play.

"It's been brought to our attention that there were some errors in our marketing materials around Android O upgrades (sic) for Moto G4 Plus". The company then took out a statement saying that they had some issues with their promotional material when the phone released, as it was initially only getting the Android N update.

Motorola India is set to launch a new smartphone and based on recent chain of teasers across its social media accounts with the tagline "Xperience", it is likely that we could see the Moto X4 in the country soon. Watch our software upgrade page for more information.

The statement mentions how the Moto G family usually only receives one major update, but that's not really the standard in 2017 for a device of this caliber.

As per the list of phone to get Oreo update - as posted by Motorola - 12 Moto phone will get the new software. One of the most shocking exclusions from the list was last year's Moto G4 Plus. But as per the report, it is strongly assumed that the to be launched the phone in India is the Moto X4 Android One. "We're happy to confirm Android 8.0 Oreo will be joining our fleet of Motorola smartphones, starting this fall", writes Motorola in its blog.
