The 31-year-old is the subject of a new Netflix documentary and the Poker Face singer said she was glad that it showed her in an "authentic" light. 'It's lonely, it is isolating and it is very psychologically challenging because fame changes the way you're viewed by people'.

She's often seen in Gaga: Five Foot Two smoking small, brown clove cigars, which pals like Elton John and Tony Bennett have begged her to quit. "Yet I am so humbled by the side of family that breeds love from the world, the voice I've been given by my fans to spread messages of empowerment and equality, the fortunate life it's brought to me and my family and how we can now give to others in need".

'But no matter how much respect I have for her as a performer, I could never wrap my head around the fact that she wouldn't look me in the eye and tell me that I was reductive or whatever.

"I write Joanne to help understand my physical and emotional pain through my family's history of the death of my aunt at a young age in 1974 of the auto-immune disease Lupus".

She also took time to thank Moukarbel for his hard work on the film.

Directors and actors attend a premiere for "Gaga: Five Foot Two" at the 42nd Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) in Toronto, Canada. Directed and shot by Chris Moukarbel ("Banksy Does New York"), it catches her at home, in her studio, in meetings with execs and dodging paparazzi on the streets, i.e. the day-to-day dealings of one of the world's most famous living artists.

Gosh, that was fun, I thought to myself during this dizzying flash of nostalgia. This is a collaboration where I blindly went "all in" because I trusted his talent and he believed in mine.

'The only thing that really bothers me about her is that I'm Italian and from NY so, like, if I got a problem with somebody, I'm gonna tell you to your face.

"I admired her always and I still admire her no matter what she might think of me", she says, puffing on a clove. "Like everybody watching it and seeing how ideal I am, and seeing how flawless my career is, and how flawless every little thing that I do and touch is - because that is just simply no true".

"Five Foot Two" covers Gaga from the recording and release of her 2016 album "Joanne" through her performance at the 2017 Super Bowl.
