Koeman: Lukaku nearly impossible to replace

Ronald Koeman looks set to make changes again as Everton bid to end their poor form at Old Trafford. Did I kill him? No.

However, Mourinho dismisses that notion, and also plays down his own part in persuading the player to choose United over Chelsea, who had also chased the Belgian.

"The way they live, the way they train, the way everything is simple for them, I see them as kids".

I think this Premier League is much more defensive-minded, and much more hard.

As for Everton, from which everyone expects at least a fight at the top of the standings, after the sale Lukaku not only lost the team's top scorer last season, but with it and effectiveness.

Lukaku scored 87 times in 166 appearances for Everton between 2013 and 2017, before Manchester United paid £75m to sign the Belgian worldwide before the start of the new campaign.

"I don't think it was my influence". I think we paid the money that Everton asked for and we paid the player the wages that his agent asked for and we paid the agents the commission that they asked for. For sure I would have kept some of the players that were sold, for sure I would not buy some of the players that were bought. "The economic power belongs to everyone".

It's not just about the striker, said Mourinho. It means that every club is potentially strong.

"And with more teams outside that group of six or seven who have conditions to give you hard matches and to take points off you".

Zlatan Ibrahimovic was burdened with much of United's goalscoring responsibility in that time, but Mourinho wants other members of the team to continue to keep the pressure off Lukaku.
