Jennifer Lopez Donating $1 Million to Aid Hurricane Victims in Puerto Rico

Concerned about family members in Puerto Rico she has yet to hear from, Jennifer Lopez joined Cuomo Sunday in offering support to the island by using her connections and enlisting the help to those around her.

Major League Baseball today announced a $1 million contribution to assist communities impacted by Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico and the quake in Mexico.

"Alex Rodriguez and I, who are both New Yorkers, are utilizing all of our resources and relationships in entertainment, sports and business to garner support for Puerto Rican and Caribbean relief efforts", Lopez said. During his visit, Cuomo said he witnessed "breathtaking" devastation. There will also be separate collections for school and medical supplies. Today, Puerto Rico needs our help.

Lopez's personal pledge? $1 million dollars from proceeds of her Las Vegas shows.

Cuomo was joined by entertainer Jennifer Lopez for the announcement. In the days after 160 miles per hour winds whipped through the island, a dam broke, causing major flooding, and power on the entire island went down.

The Mets are asking fans attending games at Citi Field on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday to bring donations, and supplies can also be dropped off at Citi Field on Thursday and Friday. The supplies will be collected and managed at the Javits Center in New York City by the New York National Guard. "And those are the people in Puerto Rico".

He pushed the federal government to do more for Puerto Rico, saying New York's congressional delegation would stand up for the island, which is a commonwealth and has a non-voting rep in Congress.

Teams of doctors and nurses will be heading from NY to Puerto Rico, and the Port Authority of NY and New Jersey will send 45 aviation specialists to help at damaged San Juan International Airport and other airports.
