IOS 11 will break some apps

Spotify-like social features have been added to Apple Music, HomeKit can now control smart speakers via AirPlay 2, machine learning enables new features in Siri and smart curation of "Memories" in Photos, and the Control Center has been redesigned for efficiency. Also coming in the new update is the final switch for Apple from 32-bit apps to 64-bit apps, meaning that if an app you've been using hasn't been updated for the more modern software architecture, it won't work at all on iOS 11.

It's a question I get every time Apple releases a new iOS.

Before you perform the update, you might want to check to see which apps - if any - you're going to lose, as this will help you decide if you want to proceed. You should get a notification once the iOS 11 update is available, but if you can't wait, go to the General tab in the settings app and select Software Update to start the download. Today, if a new version of iOS, macOS, tvOS or watchOS available, you have to download them all the same day as long as your device has supported. But with iOS 11, Apple is finally putting its foot down. But the iPhone 5 and 5C, as well as the fourth generation iPad and the very first iPad mini, are not supported by iOS 11. You will be able to play with Augmented Reality using a lot of third-party apps.

It's an exciting day for iPhone and iPad users as Apple gets ready to release iOS 11 on Tuesday morning, September 19. Why do you need the iPad Pro for this feature?

Siri uses on-device learning to deliver more personal experiences and offers suggestions based on personal usage of Safari, News, Mail, Messages and more. The feature is already available in most of the Android devices but, yes it is new for Apple users. After the update has been installed, the iOS device will restart again.

But with iOS 11, some apps that are not coded to operate in 64-bit systems will stop working once the device has been upgraded to iOS 11.

The bad news is that some older, but still popular, devices will not be able to update to iOS 11.

You should probably be thinking about getting some new apps too. The highlight is the improved Live Photos app that now lets you choose any of the snaps as your primary photo.
