Jay-Z dedicated part of his performance Friday night to football player Colin Kaepernick.

Kaepernick, who opted out of his 49ers contract in March, remains a free agent following the backlash past year for kneeling during the national anthem before 49ers games in protest against police brutality and racial injustice, though he said he would not continue the protest this season with a new team.

In recent weeks, we've seen some of the very biggest names in the NFL - Aaron Rodgers, Von Miller, Thomas Davis, Richard Sherman among them - say that exiled quarterback Colin Kaepernick deserves a chance to play in the league.

"I want to dedicate this to Dick Gregory".

"I am not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses black people and people of color", Kaepernick said at the time. His last main show in NY was part of his 2014 On the Run Tour with Beyonce, though he's had some performances for his Tidal streaming service and surprise appearances.

During his set, Hov also brought out reggae icon Damian Marley, who performed their collaborative 4:44 cut, "Bam". The three-day festival features a diverse list of artists that also includes the Gorillaz, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Nas, Weezer, Future and LL Cool J, Migos, Run the Jewels, Two Door Cinema Club and 21 Savage.

"If anybody got a dream, you chase that (dream) with everything you got", he said at one point.

"Got to be prepared", he told the fan.
