Nemanja Matic has warned his Manchester United team-mates that they have to win games such as their stalemate at Stoke City to get their hands on the Premier League title.

United, renowned for their swashbuckling style under former manager Alex Ferguson, have made a strong start to the Premier League season, winning their opening three games and scoring 10 goals in the process to top the table.

The Red Devils were looking to extend their 100% record to four games this season but came up against a Stoke side eager to attack whenever possible.

"One team tried to win, one team tried to get the point but they fought hard to get that point - and probably deserved (it)".

"If you ask me, are we going to go there and play with seven at the back, like some teams do, five plus two?"

"It's always important if you can come from behind, and I think we showed spirit tonight".

The 24-year-old had earlier fired the visitor into a 2-1 lead, only for Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting to quickly restore parity from a corner for his second of the match. We didn't take some chances at the other end, so we could have won the game.

Straffordshire: League-leaders Manchester United were held to a hard-fought 2-2 draw against Stoke City in the Premier League at the Bet365 stadium here on Saturday.

On Matic, Mourinho added: "I can not say that I had better guys than him in my career".

"Obviously I'm not happy with it (the overall result), especially after such a great save", United manager Jose Mourinho said in his postgame interview.

"Manchester United didn't have different teams at that time, they had a core of players that established the heritage of the club, the culture of the club". Well, there you have it - United have finally conceded in the Premier League.

"We are ready. No excuses - let's try to win there". The pair got away scot-free against Leicester before the global break, but Mourinho now needs to prepare Victor Lindelof for Tuesday night's Champions League tie against FC Basel - Saturday's defensive pairing are ruled out through suspension.

"He knows when and where to change his tactics, to change how the team plays".
