Notably, on August 18, the Orissa High Court had granted bail to Seashore Group of Companies CMD Prashant Dash in a chit fund related case. They had sold a land to the Seashore Group for a hefty amount and could not explain the details of the illegal transactions to the CBI.

Interestingly, the CBI in its press release uploaded in its website has neither mentioned the name of the Odisha MLA nor the name of the Group of Companies from whom the arrested MLA's wife has received the said huge amount in her account.

The statements of BJD came hours after the CBI arrested Choudwar-Cuttack MLA Prabhat Ranjan Biswal in connection with his involvement in the Seashore chit fund scam.

Biswal and his wife Laxmi Bilasini Biswal were under CBI scanner for over four years over a land deal with the dubious firm.

The demonstrators burned the effigies of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP National President Amit Shah and Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan during the protest against the arrest of the ruling party MLA. "Why CBI did not arrest Biswal earlier, though he was interrogated several times in the past?" The West Bengal case was a bright example where the CBI was used against the TMC leaders for opposing the NDA government on various issues.

"Centre is using the CBI for political gains".

Senior BJP leader K V Singhdeo, however, ruled out any political conspiracy behind Biswals arrest. "The arrest by the CBI at this juncture when the BJD is fighting against fuel hike creates doubt", Prasanna Acharya, another MP who attended the meeting at Naveen Niwas, said.

They also took out a bike rally from Cuttack to Bhubaneswar shouting slogans against BJP and CBI and demonstrated in front of the CBI office in the state capital.
