Big Fourth Quarter Pushes Clemson Past BC

The Tiger defense was doing its job, but there were nearly no Tiger paw tracks in the end zone produced by an offense which rolled over Louisville and Heisman Trophy winning quarterback Lamar Jackson, 47-21 last week.

The Clemson Tigers were not overwhelming, with only its defense showing up, but that's how titles are won.

Clemson gets a big lead and cruises here, but five touchdowns after two straight huge games will be tough. Reliable defense wins titles.

Dabo Swinney saw his Tigers come together in all three phases of the game in the fourth quarter, working past a worn down Boston College team, and using a 27-0 run in the final 12 minutes to power their 34-7 win over the Eagles. The Tigers have recorded victories over Kent State, Auburn, Louisville and Boston College. Boston College entered the fourth quarter tied 7-7 with the defending national champions.

But this is only American college football - not life and death.

Clemson should handle Boston College.

And the Eagles were double trouble for a Clemson offense that came up flat. Clemson had only 38 yards in the third quarter and Knoll had pinned the Tigers inside the 10 five times. "To run the ball for 342 yards, you're gonna win a lot of football games that way". Bryant led the Tigers on a 76-yard drive, capped by Choice's go-ahead score. But he rushed for 106 yards and two TDs, including a 4-yard score in the fourth that made it 27-7.

It wasn't pretty, but the No. 2 Clemson Tigers took care of business on Saturday.

To keep the drive alive, Clemson tight end Milan Richard recovered C.J. Fuller's fumble at midfield. Etienne added a 10-yard run to end the Tigers' scoring. His snaps are limited for now until he improves his pass protection.

The Seminoles, who had a 21-day layoff due to Hurricane Irma, have dropped their first two games to open a season for the first time in 28 years.

Former Clemson star Deshaun Watson had his best game as a pro with 301 passing yards, 41 rushing yards and two touchdowns Sunday afternoon at New England, but Tom Brady rallied the Patriots for a 36-33 win against the Texans. He completed 17-of-26 passes for 140 yards with two interceptions. That's why Clemson has to put away Boston College early on Saturday because anything else could be risky. Ball control could go a long way to slowing down the Hokies (4-0), who are permitting only 108 yards a game on the ground this season.

Clemson sophomore running back Tavien Feaster, making the first start of his career, had 73 yards on 20 carries.

"So just looking forward to getting back to work this week, looking at the film, seeing the good spots and seeing the bad spots and correcting those before a big matchup this weekend at Virginia Tech".

The Eagles played No. 2 Clemson physically in Saturday's 34-7 loss at Memorial Stadium and paid the price.
