Chelsea missed out on a place in the Champions League last season but the Blues are now back in Europe's elite club competition after their Premier League title triumph last term.

Conte added that the thrashing of Qarabag was the ideal re-introduction into Champions League football after a year out of Europe's elite. They must understand I trust them.

Antonio Conte's men cast the visiting minnows aside at Stamford Bridge in a convincing display that included first Chelsea goals for Davide Zappacosta and Tiemoue Bakayoko on Tuesday.

Chelsea ran riot in the second half against the Group C underdogs and equalled their best showing in the Champions League - a 6-0 win against Maribor three years ago.

"I saw a lot of positive things".

"Also because we have to start the process to improve our players".

'I think it was a good start, a ideal start, for us to play our first game in the Champions League and win with a good result.' said the Italian.

'Now we have to continue, to rest tomorrow and then to start to think about the next game, a strong game, a tough game against Arsenal'.

"We have to develop these players, to try and create a good competition, a positive competition, between them".

"It's not easy to change your life in one week, but his answer was very good".

Defender Cesar Azplicueta knocked in an exquisite pass from Spanish compatriot Cesc Fabregas in the 55th minute.

"We must have calm to do the best for the player and the team".

1-0! What a brilliant strike from Pedro and our Champions League campaign is off and running!

The Chelsea faithful sang "Zappacosta - he scores when he wants" as the right wing-back moved halfway towards Costa's Champions League tally for Chelsea.

"We made a lot of errors", Qarabag coach Gurban Gurbanov said. The Azerbaijani side defeated FC Copenhagen in the play-off round to book a place in the group stages.
