Three Kashmiri youths martyred, several injured in occupied Kashmir

Two soldiers have been killed and three others, including a captain, have been injured in an encounter with terrorists in South Kashmir's Shopian district, on Sunday.

Irate crowds clashed with the security forces at several places in the area during and after the encounter. The security forces were involved in a search and cordon off operation which had the militants trapped.

Mehmood Ghaznavi, a resident of Chadoora in Budgam of Central Kashmir, was operational commander of Hizbul Mujahideen in Kashmir.


A police officer, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the militants were identified as locals.

Five army soldiers were injured in the gunfight.

Reports from the village said stone-pelting protesters clashed with the security forces in the village to break the cordon around the village. Later, all the three terrorists were successfully gunned down by the forces. Almost 150 militants were killed past year. The wounded policemen have been shifted to Srinagar for the treatment.


The Indian troops blasted a mosque and four residential houses during the operation that began late last night in Awneera area.

"Fresh firing has erupted at the encounter site at Zainapora in Shopian, a police official said".

A civilian identified as Imtiyaz Ahmad Mir of Hawal, who was injured during an explosion at Dalgate on Saturday succumbed to injuries today.


Internet services have been blocked in Badgam district following the identification of Itoo among the slain militants.
