The driver who killed one person and injured many when he drove through a counter-protest at a white nationalist rally has been identified as James Alex Fields, 20, of OH, according to reports.

James Alex Fields, Junior of OH is charged with second degree murder, malicious wounding and hit and run.

The vehicle seen in photographs running over protesters at a white-nationalist rally in Virginia on Saturday afternoon has an OH license plate.

The victim of the deadly crash was a 32-year-old woman who was crossing the street, according to law-enforcement officials. Kumer says he doesn't believe Fields has obtained an attorney yet. Her identity has not been released to the public yet because her next of kin have not yet been notified.

Thomas said that they are treating this as a criminal homicide investigation.

Charlottesville Police say the suspect is in custody.

Police said only that the crash is under investigation and have not commented on specific aspects of the crash.

Matt Korbon, a 22-year-old University of Virginia student, said several hundred counter-protesters were marching through a pedestrian mall downtown when "suddenly there was just this tire screeching sound".
