Saints Get Preseason Win Over Chargers

In the long run, Saints quarterback Drew Brees expects the two days of workouts to be valuable, even more so than Sunday's preseason game against the Chargers.

Chase Daniel replaced Brees and led New Orleans to 10 first-quarter points against the Chargers' first-unit defense.

The Saints added a 53-yard Wil Lutz field goal on their second possession.

The Chargers' only touchdown came in the fourth quarter when Lutcher High product Dexter McCoil intercepted Ryan Nassib and returned it 99 yards for a touchdown. And on defense they allowed running back Alvin Kamara to bolt 50 yards for a touchdown nearly untouched on the Saints' opening play. Lutz kicked a 26-yard field goal with 2:11 to play.

So can we finally admit moving the Chargers to Los Angeles will be a complete and utter disaster? The Chargers punted seven times, four in the first half alone. With Rivers out, Kellen Clemens got the start. Kamara finished the first half with 61 yards on five carries, and one reception for 20 yards.

New Orleans Saints vs San Diego/Los Angeles Chargers game (live stream free online details here) for second week of 2017 NFL Preseason commence at 8:00 PM EDT in StubHub Center with live broadcast on NFL Network and Game Pass. For a second straight week the Chargers struggled to move the ball, finishing with just 177 total yards.

With Mark Ingram, Adrian Peterson and Cameron Jordan also sitting out, it was the Saints' defense, especially the linebackers, that stole the show as the defense held the Chargers without an offensive touchdown.

The Saints looks to bounce back from Thursday's defeat at Cleveland against the Browns, while the Chargers lost to the Seahawks.
