Now the supporting cast is starting to fill out.

Riz Ahmed is being eyed to star in Sony's upcoming Spider-Man spinoff Venom that stars Tom Hardy in the title role. While the character isn't being disclosed at this time, there is word on which character it won't be.

Riz Ahmed is reportedly in talks to appear in Spider-Man movie spin-off Venom.

While details on Ahmed's role have not yet been revealed, sources say that he'll be playing a popular Marvel Comics character. So it sounds like it could go either way.

Kraven the Hunter is one of Spider-Man's most famous nemeses, and he is known for his obsession with hunting. Here's an interesting thought, though: back in June it was reported that Carnage will be the film's villain, setting up a Symbiote vs Symbiote showdown with Hardy on one end of that fight.

If you are not familiar with Ahmed, then you have missed out on some of Hollywood's better pictures as of late. Ben Reiley's appearance would usher in a version of Spider-Man that Sony could use separately from Tom Holland's Peter Parker, and it would give Venom a hero to pit himself against. That sounds pretty far fetched, but Venom is supposed to be a straight-up sci-fi movie, and potentially R-rated, so maybe it's not too insane.

Scott Rosenberg ("Jumanji") and Jeff Pinkner ("The Dark Tower") will write the script for "Venom", with Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach producing the movie, along with Amy Pascal.

Filming is expected to commence in the autumn, with the new film set for release on October 5, 2018.
