Android O is still scheduled to be released for the OP3/3T, but according to a Q&A that OnePlus shared on its forums, you shouldn't expect any major software updates following it. OnePlus' Head of Product confirmed recently that the OnePlus 3 and 3T will receive the highly-anticipated Android O update at some point, but that will be the last major OS update these two smartphones will get. These two were succeeded by the OnePlus 5, and after its release, there were talks about OnePlus giving software update to the OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T.

The company kept the name with the newly released OnePlus 5 as well as the recent flagship has been receiving updates right from the day one. After the OP3/3T have been updated to Android O, we'll start moving the Open Beta Program from OP3/3T to OP5.

However, even if it makes sense, this still probably comes as sour news for OnePlus 3/3T owners.

The OnePlus 3 was released in the summer of of 2016, while the OnePlus 3T arrived just before the turn of the year. Therefore, it's safe to assume that the new firmware will hit the OnePlus 3 and 3T before the year end. Another question from different forum member asks why the Open Beta for the OP3/3T has more features than the stable branch.

However, the company says that it will continue rolling out Security Patches.

During the Q&A, OnePlus also announced that it plans to push the August security patches to the OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T very soon. After Android O that'll only be available to OnePlus 5 owners.
