Aside from the above mentioned fixes and improvements, the update also adds a new News Channel from which in-game items can be obtained.

This new feature was introduced to the game in the recent v1.31 update for Breath of the Wild which confirms that "In-game items can now be obtained from launching the software from certain articles distributed through a new News channel".

If you go to the Switch news channel right now, one of the updates visible tells players how they can feed meat or fruit to certain animals in the world.

There is no denying that The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is one of the most profitable titles for the Switch, so it's no surprise that Nintendo continues to support the game months after its official release.

◦Depending on your game progress and location, certain items may not be obtainable.

The News Channel will be open on the 8th of September this year.

There were also various fixes to improve gameplay in the patch. According to the latest patch notes, starting August 9th we'll see the addition of "Tips of the Wild" on the News page.

It's impossible (as always) to try to discern what Nintendo's motives are here, though if they just thought it'd be fun to have a tips post give you in-game items, that's neat.
