Los Angeles Rams interested in signing WR Sammy Watkins to extension

The Ravens say offensive lineman Alex Lewis will miss this season with a shoulder injury and rookie Tim White will have season-ending surgery on his thumb.

So my takeaway is that this is now a no-excuses year for Jared Goff.

With two trades on Friday, the Bills altered the depth charts of three teams and caused all sorts of movement in our fantasy football wide receiver rankings.

Goff now has a legitimate supporting cast.

But more on all that in a bit.

But upon bringing him into the fold, Fisher did the most inexplicable thing. Having more consistent receivers will likely be a good thing for the Bills.

It was a recipe for disaster for a young quarterback from whom so much was being expected. Some of those looks go to Alshon Jeffery, who joined the Eagles on a one-year deal in March, but there is no question Agholor's summer showing was a serious motivator for the Eagles to pull the trigger.

In the months that followed, they went about crossing off items with admirable meticulousness.

The 2017 season will be the Bills' first under first-year general manager Brandon Beane and coach Sean McDermott.

Signing veteran left tackle Andrew Whitworth from Cincinnati to solidify and give a hard-nosed veteran presence on the line.

And from the draft, dependable, productive Eastern Washington wide receiver Cooper Kupp and athletic tight end Gerald Everett were added.

Tavon Austin is the biggest threat on the Rams' offense.

DRAFT - One of the best parts of playing fantasy is the draft. Out the door were the team's top receiver and top cornerback.

A difference maker, if you will.

So the Rams reluctantly tabled the item until next offseason. In a separate transaction, E.J. Gaines and a 2018 second round pick were acquired from the Los Angeles Rams in exchange for wide receiver Sammy Watkins and a sixth round pick next year.

Watkins, 24, was the fourth overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft out of Clemson.

Watkins has been dealing with a foot injury that limited the wide receiver to just eight games previous year after having an operation to fix a broken foot.

Some huge changes at 1 Bills Drive after Thursday's night's preseason opener.

If Watkins can live up to Robey-Coleman's assessment, it becomes a worthwhile transaction, even if it also means using the franchise tag to keep him or signing him to a lucrative long-term deal as his contract expires at the end of this season. Yes they drafted Nathan Peterman but it's impossible to think he's the future of this team.

The biggest victor, of course, is Goff. One of those trades sent their receiver Sammy Watkins to the Los Angeles Rams.

The Bills are a team trying to build for the future.
