But Mesereau quit the case, declining to explain why.

A pre-trial hearing to discuss Cosby's new legal team, among other matters, is scheduled for Tuesday in Norristown, Pa. Blake was eventually acquitted in March 2005.

Mesereau, who is based in Los Angeles, has been involved in several celebrity cases, including the murder trial of actor Robert Blake.

Bliss, who heads her own law firm in Las Vegas that specializes in the protection of individual liberties and civil rights matters, will aid Mesereau in Cosby's defense.

Prosecutors quickly pushed for a retrial, and Cosby's lawyers Brian McMonagle and Angela Agrusa asked O'Neill for permission to withdraw.

He faces more than 10-years behind bars if found guilty on three felony charges of second-degree aggravated indecent assault.

One of those issues will be whether Cosby, 80, wants the new jury panel to be selected from residents outside the county.

Cosby denies wrongdoing, saying any sexual contact he may have had with his accusers was consensual. The two led Cosby's legal team at his June trial, which ended in a mistrial after the jury was unable to reach a unanimous verdict.

Acting on the motion of defense attorneys, the judge declared a mistrial.
