2 dead after helicopter crashes near Charlottesville

NBC29 in Charlottesville is reporter a helicopter crash in Albemarle County, near Charlottesville.

Videos posted to social media show black smoke billowing from a wooded area and another helicopter circling near the golf course at 43 Old Farm Road.

"There are two confirmed fatalities", the statement read.


According to the Richmond Times-Dispatch, the crash took place near Birdwood Golf Course about five miles away from violent protests that resulted in one dead and dozens injured.

Fire units and police are at the scene.

Neighbors saw the helicopter go down.


Virginia State Police are investigating a helicopter crash in Albemarle County. At least one person was killed and 19 injured when a vehicle plowed into a group of counter-protesters.

State and local police were responding to a deadly three-car crash at a white nationalist rally earlier this afternoon.
