John Bernecker, a veteran stunt performer and fight choreographer, fell more than 20 feet off a balcony onto a concrete floor, suffering a serious head injury.

Coweta County Coroner Richard Hawk officially ruled his death the result of accidental blunt force trauma, The Los Angeles Times reported.

A 911 call and reports from the scene of the death of John Bernecker, a stuntman on the set of AMC's "The Walking Dead", say the 33-year-old stuntman attempted to abort his stunt mid-execution and missed the landing cushion below him by inches.

"The production team of "#The Walking Dead" said they are "deeply saddened" by the loss of a family member, while AMC extended their thoughts and prayers to Bernecker's love ones in this hard time. "He will always be part of the TWD family", the show wrote.

LifeLink Foundation, a nonprofit organ donation network, said Bernecker's "loved ones have ensured his legacy will live on, not only through the personal and professional contributions he made during his life, but also by their generous decision to allow John to save lives as an organ donor".

The Walking Dead team have paid an emotional tribute to stuntman John Bernecker, who died on Thursday following a fall. "He was immediately transported to an Atlanta hospital and we have temporarily shut down production".

"The family of John Bernecker is heartbroken to confirm that John has passed away from injuries sustained earlier this week", the statement reads.

"We will work with the authorities and closely monitor their investigations into this tragic incident", SAG-AFTRA added.

We're keeping Bernecker's friends and family in our thoughts during this particularly tough time. He has also worked for the big screen, including several Marvel as Logan or recently Black Panther.
