Troian Bellisario may be best known for her role on "Pretty Little Liars", but the 31-year-old is keeping it 100-percent honest when it comes to her past struggles with mental illness and eating disorder. Writing an essay for Lenny Letter, Ms. Bellisario shares more about her own struggles with mental illness and eating disorders, which are themes that fuel the emotionally charged Feed. She shared with readers how her mind somehow convinced her that living on 300 calories per day was too much, even.

"That part of my brain is my disease, and there was a time when it had absolute authority over me", she wrote.

She went on to write, "It nearly killed me, and you can see that even though I have lived in recovery for ten years now, it still finds loads of fun, insidious ways to thwart me to this day". For the "Pretty Little Liars" actress, the disparity between what her mind wants and what her body can handle has been giving her a hard time.

She added, "It nearly killed me, and you can see that even though I have lived in recovery for ten years now, it still finds loads of fun, insidious ways to thwart me to this day".

Bellisario candidly admitted that getting help for her condition was also a struggle for her, saying, "It was a hard journey finding my way back to health". She continued on, noting how she made it through with the support of family, friends and her loving partner, as well as a long regimen of medical and mental care. She writes: "I started to panic: Everyone is going to think I'm a diva, that I can't hack it, that I'm a frightful actor, and they'll never want to work with me again".

Bellisario also admits to Variety that deciding to star in the movie herself didn't come easily, as some people close to her felt that playing a character with an eating disorder-and the weight loss that would come along with that-was a unsafe place to be for someone who is on the other side of recovery. "I sat down and I wrote a version of my own story".

The movie is about a teenager who develops an eating disorder in an effort to gain control after the tragic death of her twin brother.

"There is a part of my brain that defies logic", writes Bellisario. "It's not the exact events, but what I wanted to do with the film was get the audience to understand what it sounds like and what it feels like to be struggling with that illness", Bellisario said in an interview with Teen Vogue. The voice of my disease is with me every day.
