Peskov said any preconditions for the U.S.to return the compounds would be "unacceptable" for Russian Federation, according to TASS.

"We consider it absolutely unacceptable to place conditions on the return of diplomatic property".

The talks between Ryabkov and Shannon, the undersecretary for political affairs, had been scheduled for June but Russian Federation cancelled them, citing new US sanctions linked to the conflict in Ukraine.

Russian Federation demanded Monday that the United States return two compounds that were ordered closed previous year after the USA intelligence community concluded that Moscow had interfered in the 2016 US presidential election.

"What is happening is - de facto and de jure - a violation of global law", he said.

Friday, the Russian Foreign Ministry asserted was prepared to banish American diplomats if the U.S.does do not undo its decision to expel 35 Russian diplomats and block access to Russian diplomatic estates.Russia has threatened to respond in kind but has also said it appreciates the 'difficult internal political situation.

Then-US President Barack Obama ordered the seizure of two Russian diplomatic compounds and kicked out 35 diplomats from the country in response to alleged Kremlin hacking of the US election in 2016.

He also said the "anti-Russian feeling" in the United States is making it more hard for the two countries to agree on key global issues, Reuters reported. "Kremlin, as it is, does not really participate but as you know this issue was raised by President [Vladimir] Putin during his G20 meeting with President Trump in a quite straightforward manner".

Trump has repeatedly cast doubt over the USA intelligence community's assessment that Russian intelligence agencies interfered in the election.

The Russian President held off from retaliating at the time and said he would wait to see how Mr Trump reacted after he came into the White House.

"We still hope that our United States colleagues will show some kind of political wisdom and political will", Peskov told reporters.
