Dumbo also introduces Nico Parker and Finley Hobbins in their first film roles.

Will Smith had been considering the lead role as Dumbo, but instead, he will play the Genie in Disney's live-action version of Aladdin (another detail that was confirmed at D23). Michael Keaton, whom Burton worked with on Batman Returns in 1992; Danny DeVito, who collaborated with the director on Batman Returns and Big Fish; and Eva Green, who teamed up with Burton for Dark Shadows and Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children, head up the upcoming pic.

Production starts for live-action reimagining of Disney's Dumbo!

"Dumbo was always one of my favorite Disney films", stated Burton.

The studio's had a surprisingly strong success rate so far on its live-action remakes (from Cinderella to The Jungle Book), but with such a production-line approach to churning back up every animated classic in its catalogue, exhaustion is bound to kick in sooner or later. The project is expected to use a mixture of CG and live-action elements to capture a new take on the story, and considering Burton's involvement, we know the end result will at least be a visually distinct piece of work.

Holt Farrier (Farrell) is a former circus star returning from the war, who is persuaded to care for a baby elephant by Max Medici (DeVito), the owner of a struggling circus.

Burton has already directed two of Disney's live action reboots; Alice in Wonderland, and its sequel, Alice Through The Looking Glass. Roshan Seth, DeObia Oparei, Sharon Rooney, Douglas Reith, and Katterli Frauenfelder also join.

"Dumbo" will be released in cinemas on March 29 2019.

'But when Holt's children (Parker and Hobbins) discover that Dumbo can fly, persuasive entrepreneur V.A. Vandevere (Keaton) and an aerial artist named Colette Marchant (Green) swoop in to make the peculiar pachyderm a star'.
