As if swap deals on this scale ever happen (they really, really don't), Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has demanded Toni Kroos in exchange for David de Gea should Real Madrid keep going back in for the United goalkeeper.

In turn, Madrid president Florentino Perez is hopeful that the funds raised by Morata's sale will help the club in their pursuit of Monaco starlet Kylian Mbappe, and so things could have a crucial knock-on effect, as per the report.

However, the transfer ultimately didn't materialise, with United signing Romelu Lukaku from Premier League rivals Everton instead for a reported £75million fee, but Herrera, who has previously been in the Spain squad with Morata, says would have welcomed the 24-year-old's arrival.

Griezmann was their No1 target going into the transfer window but Atleti's transfer ban ultimately saw him sign a new contract and stay.

"Too bad he is not with us, but I wish him well". The club tried to sell Álvaro Morata as well and United were interested at first.

Real Madrid tried to unload James Rodríguez this summer, but they couldn't find any takers.

"It's a shame he's not with us but he's a top striker and will do well wherever he plays". Club director, Marco Fassone has admitted to Mediaset Premium, their interest in the Real Madrid striker, and stated that the negotiations have heated up significantly in the last few hours. We do not determine what the price is of a player of Real Madrid, Real Madrid do that.

"He is a player who made it to the first team with me". And we didn't arrive at an agreement with Real Madrid.
