Lakers' Lonzo Ball admits starting a bidding war between different shoe brands

The Lakers' rookie rocked his Big Baller Brand ZO2s for his first summer league game, but stopped wearing them after that.

Los Angeles Lakers guard Lonzo Ball (2) tries to drive past Dallas Mavericks guard Nicolas Brussino (9) as guard Yogi Ferrell (11) runs during the NBA Summer League semifinal game at Thomas and Mack Center on Sunday, July 16, 2017, in Las Vegas.

The Lakers scored 115 points in the quarterfinals and 108 in the semis.

If Lonzo Ball's trek through the NBA's Summer League is over, he accomplished more than anyone expected.

Ball finished with 16 points, 10 assists and four rebounds, but checked out with 6:26 left in the third quarter due to tightness in his right calf and did not return. In comparison, the remaining teams at all three of this year's Summer Leagues have combined to score at least 107 points just one time.

Of course it starts with Ball, who's now the Summer League's all-time leader in assists per game.

"It's making a statement to the brands of what they could have had with an open mind", the patriarch said, via text to Darren Rovell of ESPN.

Ball also missed last week's game against Sacramento because of a groin injury, preventing an anticipated matchup against No. 5 pick De'Aaron Fox.

But all the talk surrounding the Los Angeles Lakers rookie guard has been about what's been on his feet when he's putting up those stats. He's had two triple-doubles in the NBA's Summer League, which is a first.

Lonzo's decision to wear other shoes could actually be helping show the major brands that he's worth taking the extra steps that it would require to sign him.

"His health comes first", Buechler said. If you're a Lakers fan looking to see him play, yes. The more we see him, the better he looks, and that seems to have translated over to the summer as well. He knows more than just music, though.

The Lakers built a 62-40 halftime lead over the Mavericks. "He's going to shoot the same way, comfortable, like I said, who cares about his shot", he said. That means lots of Ball Family content, no matter much you, as an individual, might not want it.
