I cannot criticise Real Madrid and I can not criticise my club. Nor one from Real Madrid, ' Mourinho told reporters in LA.

Belgian striker Romelu Lukaku was signed from Everton last week for an initial £75 million (Dh360.7m) to fill the void, but Mourinho has revealed how United were initially in talks over signing Morata.

"Yes, we have had interest, that is obvious and it's public".

Chelsea will refuse to pay £80m to sign Real Madrid striker Alvaro Morata, according to reports in the Spanish media.

"We have not come to an economic agreement, that is obvious as well".

Don Balon, as quoted by the Daily Express, is reporting that Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich is unwilling to match Real Madrid's asking price.

Premier League champions Chelsea are reportedly holding on to Serbia global Matic until they complete the signing of Monaco midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko, which is believed to be close.

"I do not criticise Madrid and I am not going to criticise my board because my board has made the offer, and they have tried to reach an agreement during a time, and they didn't come to an agreement".

Mourinho and United are determined to keep their number one, and it may well be in 12 months time that the real battle for De Gea takes place, when there is only a year left on his contract.

It is also being said that the Portuguese manager would like to give Paul Pogba more freedom on the pitch and for that to happen he will need a player who is comfortable to just to sit in front of the backline. "I am nobody to speak about players from Real Madrid", Mourinho said. However, the Old Trafford club were successful in beating the Blues in signing the Premier League striker.

"But I don't want to say Matic or any other name because I don't think it's correct".
