MLB.com's Statcast measured the ball struck by Judge, who leads all of baseball with 30 home runs this season, at an exit velocity of 107.5 miles per hour and a launch angle of 32 degrees.

"We had told him yesterday there was a good chance he was going start on Sunday", Joe Girardi said Sunday morning.

It was also 3-0 in the nightcap when Judge, the victor of the All-Star Home Run Derby, came up with a runner on first and launched one toward the 420-foot marker in center.

Price finished off the inning with a strikeout of Matt Holliday.

In the makeup of an April 25 postponement, the Red Sox hit just four balls out of the infield and extended their scoreless streak to 22 innings. Between them, Sale, Price and Rick Porcello were charged with just one earned run the past three games, and Eduardo Rodriguez is returning from the disabled list tonight. "It's just a part of the game".

Thirty-four innings later, the opportunity has come and gone, and the Sox are right back where they were at the beginning of the All-Star break with the same obvious strengths and the same glaring weaknesses.

Judge hit an MLB-high 30 homers during the first half.

Sabathia was initially slated to start Monday night in Minnesota but was told late Saturday he would take the ball in place of Bryan Mitchell, and he battled control issues all afternoon. In the nightcap, they leaned heavily on starter David Price for a 3-0 win.

The Yankees didn't lose ground to the Red Sox but Judge wanted to pull closer.

After losing Friday night the Yankees won, 4-1, in 16 innings Saturday and the first game of Sunday's twin bill, 3-0.

Red Sox: RHP Blaine Boyer was put on the 10-day DL with a strained right elbow.

In New York's victory in the opener, the Yankees got a solo homer from Gregorius, a sacrifice fly from Ji-Man Choi and an RBI single from Ronald Torreyes.

In last year's postseason with the Chicago Cubs, Chapman pitched 15.2 innings, including 7.2 in five games in the World Series.
