Mark Freeley was walking with his two dogs Sunday morning when he came across the baby deer floating in the chilly waters off the NY coast.

"This time it went out even further", Freeley said.

According to Fox 13, Freeley and his pups stayed with the deer until a rep from Strong Island Animal Rescue and a veterinarian arrived. But as they approached the deer it ran back into the water because it was so "disoriented and flustered", another co-founder, Erica Kutzing, said.

Two other good Samaritans jumped in and brought the deer back to shore a second time, this time getting it to a rescue group.

The fawn is rescued at an area animal rescue until it can get back on its feet. The deer is now being treated and is expected to make a full recovery from the incident. "At that point, that's exactly what I would have done".

Mark Freeley was walking Storm when they spotted the fawn struggling in the water.

The video of the rescue was posted online over the weekend and generated more than 35,00 shares and 8,000 likes.

"Storm just plunged into the water and started swimming out to the fawn, grabbed it by the neck and started swimming to shore", Freeley said. "He's a very affectionate, very loving dog".
