Press Association Sport understands midfielder Matic and striker Costa are probable absentees from the Premier League champions' tour to Asia, which begins next week.

According to reports, United boss Jose Mourinho is keen to have Matic at Old Trafford after the air worked together at Stamford Bridge, but Chelsea boss Antonio Conte would prefer to sell the midfielder overseas, but the 28-year-old is hoping to push through a move to Old Trafford.

And while a deal for Alex Sandro may have stalled, the Premier League champions are on the brink of completing the £40m signing of Tiemoue Bakayoko from Monaco.

Juventus and Internazionale have expressed interest in signing the 28-year-old, with Manchester United's pursuit of the player to be resisted by Chelsea after Romelu Lukaku's decision to move to Old Trafford.

Jose Mourinho is waiting to hear if Chelsea will sell them Nemanja Matic this summer.

Costa, meanwhile, apparently has his heart set on a return to Atletico Madrid, from whom he joined Chelsea in July 2014 for £32m.

Atletico are now banned from signing players and that would prevent Costa playing for them until January.

Conte has been relatively quiet in the transfer market this summer, signing goalkeeper Willy Caballero and Roma defender Antonio Rudiger to this point.

Midfielder Nathaniel Chalobah this week joined Watford, following Bournemouth pair Asmir Begovic and Nathan Ake out of Stamford Bridge.

Last season the Serbian netted two goals in 40 appearances for Chelsea.

Arsenal and Chelsea are expected to meet in the coming days the open negotiations.
