If you have not seen the series, we recommend watching Dear White People on Netflix, especially now that we know more seasons are on the way. A group of students of color must navigate a diverse landscape of social injustice, cultural bias, political correctness, and activism in the millennial age. According to the show Dear White People "is a send-up of the now post "post-racial" America that weaves together a universal story of finding one's own identity and forging a wholly unique path".

Starring Brandon P Bell as Troy Fairbanks, Ashley Blaine Featherson as Joelle Brooks and Marque Richardson as Reggie Green, production for the second season will reportedly start later this year after the show's creator confirmed a second season at the Essence Festival on Friday June 30.

Netflix said it has renewed its original series Dear White People for a second season. Yvette Leee Bowser will return as showrunner, and the first season's breakout cast lead by Logan Browning will also be back.

The critically acclaimed Dear White People is joined by a host of other recent renewals. Unfortunately, Simien's film of the same name is not streaming on Netflix. By turns hilarious and poignant, it sought to challenge audiences rather than just stay in their comfort zone.

There is no word on when season 2 will be released, other than some time next year.

DWP has been ruffling a few feathers even before the series even aired, just based off the trailer, some people online began screaming that the show was promoting a white genocide - which it doesn't - and threatened to cancel their Netflix subscription.

Overall, the first season of the series mirrored numerous events from the film.
