He told NBC5's Pat Doney in an interview on KXAS/Channel 5's website posted Monday that the person staying at Whitehead's house when he was in Florida called him July 9 and said that someone had come into the house and that Blitz, a couple of pairs of shoes and some bags were missing.

In a statement posted on his Instagram account, Whitehead, who is entering his third season for the Cowboys, said Blitz was being taken care off by a close friend while he was out of town when someone broke in a stole the dog.

Whitehead implored his followers on Instagram to contact him regarding any details or whereabouts of Blitz.

Whitehead appears to have adopted the lovely, blue-eyed pup on May 13 and since then, he has posted several photos and videos of his pet, often sporting cute superhero costumes, and even his own Dallas Cowboy kit.

To make matters even worse, the dog thieves aren't done there. Told he would receive another call, Whitehead says he has not heard back from the malicious dognapper.

Whitehead got Blitz from Kings and Queens Bullies - the same breeder where Charlotte Hornets center Dwight Howard got his pitbull pup - this offseason.

Blitz was being watched at the friend's house at the time of the dognapping, and now that dog thief is demanding Whitehead pay $10,000 to have the dog returned to him.

"It's killing me, because I wasn't here to protect him".
